Off to Florida!
Well, Im off to Florida tomorrow morning to visit my Pop and see his new choreography for Tallahassee Ballet Rocks! I'll be back next week with lots of pics and maybe a little bit of a tan!
Pretty Dresses!
The dresses are complete! I love the way the pink dress came out and I'm obsessed with the fabric flower. I can't wait to dance the night away at Lindsay's wedding!

The blue dress is my favorite! I really want to make this a few more times with different fabrics. The pleats on the front were tedious, but well worth it! I think the little bow gives it a vintage feel, too.

Total cost for both dresses: about $30.00. Beat that!

Dress update
So I've been working on the previously mentioned dress. Here's a sneak peak...

Man, am I glad I made a mock- up first because the pattern needed a lot of work. First I had to cut it down a size. Then, I narrowed and shortened the shoulder strap. Third, I narrowed the bust darts. I also shortened the bodice and the skirt by an inch each so I could add a 2" waistband. The bodice is all done so Thursday I'll finish the skirt, Tomorrow we're going to our first Yankee's game in the new stadium! Can't wait! I only hope its not rained out...

Central Park
I think the entire population of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut were in Central Park today.
Not exactly the peaceful retreat it usually is. Still, the roller skaters provided a great distraction.

Best of all were all the wonderful blooms! I wish I could have captured their divine smell!

... and just when I was loving NYC, a kid ran into me and told me to "Watch were you're fucking going, you bitch." Well, that just sums it up doesnt it?

Save n Sew
So I've been shopping around for a dress to wear to my friend Lindsay's wedding in May and I tried on this fierce Phoebe Couture dress in Macy's that I fell in love with! I cant find a pic of it online- but its a pink, one- shouldered cocktail dress with a large rosette on the shoulder! Too bad it's almost $400 and I cant justify spending an entire government funded paycheck on it. Boo on morals. Good thing I can sew! I searched the web to find a comparable pattern and I decided on McCall's M5658.

Its not exact, but for $9.57 I couldn't refuse! Then as a bonus I got to pick another pattern for free! That's right, two patterns for $9.57! For the second dress I chose M5618.

If I have time I'll make this to wear to Bry's graduation. I already have 4 yards of pink dupioni silk I swiped from Forbidden Broadway during strike, so I'm gonna put it to good use! (Cross your fingers that my motivation holds and I actually finish this one!)

Gender Confusion
As a kid i have a vague memory of an animated movie about toys who came to life. I was reminded of this today while I performed a stuffed animal sex change operation. Tomorrow brother in law Perry, wife Lauren and new baby Colin are coming to visit us. It will be Colin's first Easter so we wanted to make him a little Easter basket. The only problem was the floppy stuffed rabbit we liked was clearly a girl, based on her bonnie pink bow.

Not wanting to be responsible for Colin's possible gender confusion- I did a little snip- snip and bam! She's a he- bunny.

If that movie is true, and toys do have feelings, than this bunny is going to hate me for the rest of his (or her) life!

Babies on the Brain!
Help! I've got babies on the brain! Not my own future babies, dont worry, but other peoples babies! Nieces, nephews, friends babies, friends who are thinking about having babies... babies everywhere! I have always been a baby lover and its true, I cant wait to have a few of my own one day- but until then I'll just live vicariously through my girls who've popped out one or two of their own. I found this awesome online shop Blabla that I want to buy everyone presents from and command you all to buy my future baby everything from here, too! Check it out!

I also have an appreciation for the dolls awesome names! I myself had imaginary friends named Oopalali-Inkadidi and Honkelschmidt.

Thoughts on Matching
Ya know how some people are all "things dont have to match, they just have to go" ? Yeah, this is a concept I've never been able to accept. I like to wear my turquoise earrings with my turquoise purse and my turquoise shoes, gosh darn it! For my entire life this has been a very important staple of my fashion identity! I remember very clearly asking Santa on more than one occasion for a dress with matching shoes. Yellow dress? Yellow shoes. Pink dress? PINK SHOES! Ok, so what if they called me Prissy Rissy? I know what I like- and I really dont think its fare that Ms. London and Mr. Kelly make me feel a fashion inferior for liking to be "matchy- matchy"! Although I will agree that when taken to extremes, matching is a total faux- pas. If you didn't know Chantay at American Girl then you were never so privileged as to see the "Gold Outfit" or "Silver Outfit" right down to the undies! Too much, I agree. So this I vow- Never will I not like to match, yet never will I match too much!

NDT's Sinfonietta
Whenever I am missing my parents I tend to watch them in this 1980's film of Netherlands Dans Theater's Sinfonietta. It was (any still may be) the company's most famous piece. Dad has the longest most bushy hair of all the men (you hippie!) and Mom is beautiful in the light pink dress. In part two they dance together after about minute 5:00 or so. But the most moving moments I think are the last 3 minutes of the piece... enjoy!
Miss you and love you guys! See you in 2 months!
