Phone Booth Humor

Just outside my door at work there used to be three old-school phone booths that you could sit down in and close the little door. I thought they were pretty cool, like a reminder that everyone didnt always have cell phones. They were other places in the bulding too, hiding in various liitle nooks and cranies. But yesterday there were removed. It was brutal. and loud. All day, bangging, and hammering, and slaming of metals. Well, today the little alcoves where they were are getting transformed into storage closets. If only I had know what a source of comedy these alcoves were going to be. Litteraly every one who walks by thinks they are really funny when they come up with "So who's office is that going to be? Haha!" Yep. Little offices. Very funny.

Cross Toes

Yippie, I got called back for a second interview for the job a I really want! Its down to just three of us...yikes. The job would involve world traveling, which would be sooooo cool, especially since Eric can visit on the road. Cross fingers and toes, please!

Also, did you know that as a young man (and soldier?) my Dad only narrowly escaped becoming a Vampire? It's true.

Wedding dress demolition!

So this weekend I started working on my next project- my niece Kailyn's flower girl dress. Chandra sent me her measurements and I set out to make a practice dress. Since they live in Chicago, I wanted to send her a dress to try on to make sure we've got the right sizing, etc. I didn't want to just make an ordinary muslin so I made it out of some scrap silk and beaded trim. It turned out really cute!

Now she'll have a dress to play princess in! This practice dress doesn't include the chiffon tiers that the real one will have since they take up a bit of time and fabric fabric and they dont really affect the sizing. I'm sending it out tomrrow and hopefully it will fit with a little bit of room to grow.

Then Eric's parents came to visit and Barb brought her wedding dress circa 1979 for me to use to make Kailyn's dress.

I must admit I was pretty apprehensive to start deconstructing my mother in law's wedding dress! Eric had to assure me that she really wanted this and that it will make her so happy on the wedding day to see Kailyn in what was once her dress. So with his approval I turned this...

in to this...

No turning back now!

Ahoy!

Sew I know its way too early to be thinking about Halloween, but how cute would this vintage pattern be as a costume?

Vintage Pattern!

Just bought this fab vintage pattern from Etsian Joules.

Its such a classic look. I cant wait to make it!

Here are some more vintage pattern finds that I think would translate to today very well. I almost bought the bottom one, too. For me, with every pattern I make, its ALL about the fabric choice!

Be warned! When buying vintage patterns do some research on what size you will be. I'm a vintage pattern size 12 as opposed to a modern pattern size 8 and a ready-to-wear size 2!
