Happy Birthday EP!

Today was Eric's 27th birthday and I still can't believe these were the seventh birthdays we've celebrated together. For breakfast I made whole- wheat Cinnamon Pancakes. Yummy!

Then our friends Sam, Vanessa and Nick came over for dinner- BBQ Pulled Pork sandwiches and Mac n' Cheese. For dessert... Pumpkin Spice cupcakes with Cream Cheese frosting!

Heidi's hair?

Anyone been watching Project Runway this season? I'm becoming more and more obsessed with getting my hair cut like Heidi's. Thoughts?

I just love Heidi. She is so beautiful and is such a goofball. You can tell she really loves life.

Esprit

Started a new part time job at Esprit today! Love their clothes. They're making a big come back after a 10 year hiatus in the US. Naturally, I had to do a bit of shopping (with my awesome new discount)!

Fashion Week. Poop.

So, why did working Fashion Week suck so much? I think it really boiled down to the fact that I think the whole shebang is absurd and ridiculous. The amount of time, money and energy that goes into producing ONE little eight minute display is disgusting. I mean, just think about it. Diesel isn't even a big famous designer, its just a retail brand, and you would have thought that Versaci was designing the Spring line. As an Italian company they flew about a dozen people in from Italy and put them up in hotel for the week. Ha, not that any one of them slept. Seriously, many people would spend the night in the collection space. Not to mention the high profile stylist and her two assistants they hired. Oh, then don't forget about the three catered meals a day and of course wine. I spent most of the six 11 hour days running stupid errands and tending the catering table, cleaning up after everyone and generally being treated as an intern (even though there were three of those who barely lifted a finger!) Maybe if I were an eager fashion student I would have cared more, but seriously it all seemed so silly. Then the show itself involved days of set up by lighting and production crews, about 50 make up artists, hair stylists, dressers, production assistants, models, camera crews, photographers, catering, breakdown and clean up. I wouldn't be surprised if millions of dollars were spent on this one show. ONE show! Don't get me wrong, I think fashion is cool. I like to look hip and cute and stylish, but is this seriously what this country needs to be spending its money on right now? It was just hard for me to justify it all. So, when someone needed sand paper with the urgency that rivaled Giulliana needing a sandwich, I had a hard time finding the motivation to get to Home Depot "like the wind". Anywho, I did get to do some cool stuff, like distressing a lot of the pieces and painting like 100 buttons. Seeing the model castings was interesting (they are all around 16- 20 years old) and are so very tall and thin. The male models were the most entertaining. No, not because they were nice to look at, but because I was laughing at them. Out loud. A lot. And the collection? Enh, not my scene. So, yeah, Fashion Week. Poop.

***Disclaimer- the Diesel and Obo people we lovely. Nothing against you guys :-)Not that any of you are reading this, but just incase, dont sue me. Thanks.

Ahoy!

Sew I know its way too early to be thinking about Halloween, but how cute would this vintage pattern be as a costume?

Diesel

Sorry guys I'm MIA till Wednesday due to my working in pre- production for the Diesel show this week (Fashion Week). I'm at the Diesel headquarters in the collection space and have sat through model castings, fittings, styling sessions, alterations, etc. It's a pretty crazy environment. I'll write a whole post about how absurd it all is after the show on Tuesday... if I survive. Another 11 hour day tomorrow!

Broadway Bears

One of my favorite charity events in NYC has got to be Broadway Bears.

"BROADWAY BEARS is an auction featuring a cuddly chorus line of one-of-a-kind teddy bears, each meticulously outfitted in original, handmade costumes by Broadway’s leading costume designers and representing memorable characters from plays and musicals, past and present."

Here are a few of my faves...
