Printable Press!

Im sad to say that my Oma, Florence "Pat" Walsh, passed away Sunday night in her sleep. I'll always remember how she taught me to hula dance! I loved her dearly and she will be missed.

Something that is making me very happy... Printable Press! I found this absolutely perfect design team who are designing custom invitations for our wedding! All I will say about the design is that it is inspired by Sandol Stoddard Warburg's book "I Like You". Here are my fave invitations from Printable Press's website!

ABT 18/29 Club!

I will soon be joining American Ballet Theaters 18/29 Club! Its basically a discount club for 18-29 year olds that allows you to see any three performances on the calender for only $30 each show! I think it is sooo awesome that ABT has taken this step to become accessible to young people who otherwise couldn't afford to see a performance! Maybe the rest of NY theater will catch on soon! This is a step in the right direction in order for the performance arts to be sustained and to continue to touch the young people of the next generation!

Wedding dress!

As many of you know- I have designed my wedding dress after my favorite vintage cocktail dress of my late Oma Claire's. Well, I was shopping around on Modcloth the other day and came across an almost identical vintage dress. Now you can all visualize my inspiration!

Obviously my dress will be white and floor length. The chiffon on the waistband will be slightly ruched. The skirt wont be quite as full but there will be a small train. The lace part of the bodice will be beaded and the same lace will edge the hem of the skirt!

The wonderful and talented Carolyn Fay of the NCSA dance costume shop is making it for me. She has been an inspirational person to me my whole life. I always wandered around her shop in awe of the spectacular tutus and headdresses. We have a fitting and are going fabric shopping when Im in Winston late May. Cant wait for it to get started!

Fabric Stash and Storage

I was poking around one of my favorite blogs Sew, Mama, Sew! and I came across their Flickr group Fabric Stash and Storage.

Arent they so creative and beautifuly organized? Mine would stay like that for about a day, then right back to the chaos. Truthfully- I think us crafters and sewers work best amidst chaos.

A darker shade of Violet?

So, Im all for so called "non- traditional" casting. Hell, I love that Jennifer Lewis is starring in Hello Dolly! in Seattle this month.

But I must admit that I am very curious (not to mention skeptical) about how Phylicia Rashad is going to successfully step into the role of Violet in August: Osage County. Deanna Dunagan won a Best Actress Tony Award for playing the part-

I dont think they're replacing any of the other cast members with African American actors- so Im really confused as to how this is going to work. I saw this play with the original cast- and let me tell you the three hours does not need to be complicated by us wondering why the mom is a different shade. Nothing against Ms. Rashad- she is fierce, but can she pull of Violet? We'll see!

Ohhhh- also, the cast of West Side Story is performing on Letterman tonight!

Etsy Shop!

I started an Etsy shop- Clairebelle's Closet! I've been a huge fan of Etsy for a long time, and I've finally listed a few items! I was inspired the other day when I couldn't find my camera case- so I decided to whip one up with some scrap quilting supplies. Well I thought the result was pretty darn cute- so made a few more! I have a lot more planned- so stay tuned!

Shoe Shaking

I have this habit of shaking out my shoes before I put them on. I think it comes from when I used to ride horses- and they told you to always shake out your boots before you put them on because Black Widows like to live in them. Anyways, it stuck and I do it with every pair.

Thoughts on Macy's

Big news people! I have officially transcended floors at Macy's! Let me just explain a thing or two about Macy's. First of all it is the Macy's. The original, the mecca of shopping tourists, the host of the Thanksgiving Day Parade, the money trap of America. You literally could spend an entire day there, maybe even a week. Heck, you could live there if you slept in a tent in the sports department. (Remember when they did that on Saved by the Bell to be the first in line for concert tickets?) Anywho, this Macys has three restaurants, two Au Bon Pains, multiple Starbucks, Auntie Anne's Pretzels, Ben & Jerry's and McDonald's. While shopping you are constantly bombarded by smells that make you hungry. Pretty clever if you aks me- because I always have to get a pretzel on the 4th floor. I have become a pretty efficient Macy's shopper and I know my way around rather well. This comes from years of shopping there for work- pantyhose, bustiers, children's clothing, socks, ties, etc. If you dont know your way around you become frustrated, tired an exhausted and disoriented- kind of like what I imagine running around a Labyrinth to be like. This is also why the food stations are a brilliant plan- like oases in the dessert. Well yesterday I hunkered down for a good three hours of shopping- had my respite of Auntie Annies- and officially decided to retire the 4th floor as my go-to floor, and adopt the 2nd floor as my own. "What does this really mean" you ask? Im out of Juniors Dept- for good. Aside from an occasional find from "American Rag"- I never find anything I like anymore. Not to mention- on Saturdays a DJ is mixing in there and it is uber loud. The second floor is so sophisticated and serene! Soft lighting and nice ladies shopping for business casual separates. No screaming teenagers from the Bronx- no spoiled brats from Connecticut. Although I wont be able to abandon the 4th floor completely ( the cocktail/ evening dress department is there too) I will now only cross through at a brisk pace- looking judgmentally at 40 year olds debating whether or not they can squeeze into some JLo jeans. The answer is NO!

Because Im cool like that...

This is floating around the blog world so I thought Id join in!

What are your middle names?
Lynne and William.

How long have you been together?
About 6 years.

How long did you know each other before you started dating?
We went to the same school for a year before we officially met, then Id say a few months after that we were pretty friendly

Who asked whom out?
It wasnt very official. We just ended up drinking together one night.

How old are each of you?
26

Whose siblings do you see the most?
Eric's brother who lives upstate. His sister lives in Chicago and mine in North Carolina.

Which situation is the hardest on you as a couple?
Nothing really! I guess paying rent (because it more than our parents mortgages)!

Did you go to the same school?
Marymount Manhattan College.

Are you from the same home town?
Nope. Eric was born and raised in Fairport, NY (outside Rochester) and I was born in The Hague, Netherlands but raised in Winston- Salem, NC.

Who is smarter?
I made better grades but Eric is smarter. He reads books on organic chemistry for fun and is subscribed to Popular Science magazine. Im more artistic.

Who is the most sensitive?
Me. I am very emotional and dramatic.

Where do you eat out most as a couple?

We very rarely go out to dinner- but we will make a special trip down to Paul's Burger on St. Marks. OH! So yummy! We like to order in Sushi and Chinese (sesame chicken and rice, please.)

Where is the furthest you two have traveled together as a couple?
Farthest from our apartment would be Winston- Salem.

Who has the craziest exes?
Wow. We're pretty even on that one. He has a lot more exes, though.

Who has the worst temper?
He would say me, but I think we're pretty equal. They both seem to come out of nowhere and be over the top.

Who does the cooking?
We both do, but Im better. Well, Im more creative and experimental. He often gets overwhelmed and will forget an ingredient or two.

Who is the neat-freak?
Im not a neat freak- but Eric does not clean. If he even wants to wipe the counter he has to ask where the cleaner is and which sponge to use.

Who is more stubborn?
Eric, by far. You do not want to enter into an argument or battle of wits with old EP. You will lose.

Who hogs the bed?

He hogs the covers but sleeps on the very edge of the bed.

Who wakes up earlier?
Eric- to do some video game playing in peace.

Where was your first date?

We didnt really have an official first date, but I guess I would say Central Park.

Who is more jealous?
We both are very jealous, though I think I handle it better.

How long did it take to get serious?

Ha! A few beers? No, I knew I would marry him very early on.

Who eats more?

Eric.

Who does the laundry?
We are very even on that duty, because neither one of us like to do it. (only because we have to go down the block to the laundromat.)We always remind the other that it is their turn.

Who’s better with the computer?

The actual machine? Eric. I blog.

Who drives when you are together?
Eric always drives. Thats fine with me.

Mellow Yellow

Maybe its just that I cant wait until spring comes to NYC- but I have been fantasizing about yellow lately. I've never been much of a yellow wearer before, but for some reason Im obsessed with it right now! I want to dress head to toe in lemon, banana, sunflower, butter, squash, pineapple, school bus, submarine style yellow! Did I make my point?
