Is this gonna last forever?

This is pretty much what I felt like after (the one time in college) I did "'shrooms".

Happy Birthday Babe!

E's b-day is actually Saturday, but he's going back home for the weekend. So, I baked a cake and he blew out the candles tonight. It was a white cake with apricot preserves and coconut garnish. Mmmmm. The preserves I got from the Amish Market on 50th St. and 9th Ave. Sooo delicious. If you're in NYC stop in there for a gourmet shopping treat. You'll have a hell of a lot better choice of products than at your local C- Town.

Thoughts on Movies

Movie Pet- Peeves: compiled by E and Me.

1. People never say goodbye on the phone. They just hang up! So rude.
2. People never use toothpaste. They just run the brush under water and start scrubbing. Eww. This is very prevalent in 80's flicks..
3. There is very rarely actual liquid in whatever cup the person is drinking from.
4. In love scenes- "it" just slips right in! No foreplay! Again, so rude!
5. As former smokers- we hate it when an actor is obviously not a smoker in real life. Not that we want people to be smokers, just get a little coaching from someone who is, please!

Got one to add to the list??

Vintage Handkerchiefs

Love the idea of handing out vintage handkerchiefs at our wedding ceremony!

(Images from Etsy and Flickr)

It seems I need to find them being sold in bulk for it to be in my budget. Individually these babies can be $2 - $15 each!

Framed Chalkboard?

Got the idea for a wedding DIY project... framed chalkboards on the buffet tables identifying each food choice.

This one's from Etsy.

Might be too shabby chic though. Opinions?

Thoughts on Dumbledore

Somehow these two mighty and powerful wizards took time out of their busy magical schedule to do a little song and dance...

Come on Dumbledore- why are you holding out on us? You're supposed to be the gay one!

Save the Date

This week we sent out the "Save the Date" postcards I made on Zazzle.

I took this picture of us in Central Park- about an hour before E proposed! I knew I had to use it in our wedding some how. Dont we look so happy?

Kit- Cat Clock?

I grew up with one of these in the house. Its still there but I dont think it works anymore. My mom loves it.

I think every kitchen needs a flash of vintage in it. E might kill me though. Maybe I should go more this route...

Both clocks found here.

Movies that shaped my childhood.

I can instantly quote any of these movies due to watching them on repeat for the whole of my childhood. In no particular order...

They are all either a musical or fantasy. Hmm... very telling.

Just incase anyone thought my job was glamorous...

let me tell you, its not. For one- theaters in NYC are, for the most part, very old and in poor condition. A smaller theater's building most likely started its life as something else like a fire house or a horse stable and was converted to a theater somewhere between the 1920's- 1970's. This means small awkward spaces, uneven floors, no insulation, and strange smells. There are usually mice and sometimes cockroaches. In many a theater I have started my daily routine by wiping tiny turds of my workspace. Why, just two days ago, during a show, a 2" cockroach dropped into a wig I was about to put on an actress. I had to flick it off quickly before she came off stage and had to put the wig on her head. Hey, the show must go on. Later I rolled over it with a roller skate. On top of this- my job requires the frequent touching of sweaty clothing and even sweatier bodies. In a show like Forbidden Broadway, where each actor is changing costumes every three minutes for 1.5 hours, there is no avoiding this. I have become accustomed to it over the years and I no longer flinch at the idea of having a damp dance belt flung at me or having to reach into a crumpled, moist knee sock. Its just part of the job. Glamorous? No. Yet, for some reason, I love it!

I love this illustration by blogger Wilson Swain. A few years a go I developed my alter ego Euphimia McGillacutty. She is the personal dresser of a London theater star in the early 1900's. She is also secretly in love with the flower delivery boy who brings bouquets to the stage door. Euphi pretends they are for her. After the shows are over and the theater is empty she puts the ladies costumes on and dances on stage. She also sings a song- but that has to be done in person.

Sneak Peak

Im so excited that two of my favorite musicals are about to be revived on B'way. One of those is Hair- which Julie and I tried to see while it was still at Shakespeare in the Park this summer. We waited in line about 7hrs to get free tickets, then it was rained out- and you dont get a rain check. So soon I'll get another chance and Im so excited. The guy playing Berger (Will Swenson) was in a show I dressed a few years ago, Adrift in Macao.

Also opening next month is West Side Story. Playbill.com had some sneak- peak pictures that really got me jazzed about it!

I was worried when I heard they were "updating" it a bit- but it seems from these pics that the original vibe is still there. You can see all 10 photos by Joan Marcus here. Now if only Jesus Christ Superstar would return- Id be in heaven!

Ketchup and Texas Pete

So while chatting pre-show with the ladies in the dressing room the other night- I told a story about how bizarre I was as a child. I'll share it with you now. Prepare yourself, Mom.

I was a very skinny child and always felt very underdeveloped in comparison to some of my friends. Sure I got a "training bra" in 5th grade, but I didnt need it till at least 10th. I was especially aware of my non- pubescent self while in the dressing room before dance classes. By around 6th grade some girls had started "menstruating". They all moaned and groaned about such things as cramps and bloating, and told the rest of us "Oh your sooo lucky you dont have to deal with this!" But I didnt feel lucky- I was jealous. I wanted in the club. I wanted to be a woman, too! This is when I hatched my brilliant plan- to fake it. I would pretend I had started my period so I could commiserate with the women's club. Now this is where it gets bizarre. Merely pretending wouldnt be enough. They would somehow know I was lying. They would need proof. So one day, before class, I scooped up a bunch of ketchup and hot sauce packets from the snack bar and stuffed them in my bag. When I got to the dressing room I went into a bathroom stall- I took out a tiny "emergency" pantie- liner from my purse and squirted the ketchup and hot sauce all over it. Then I strategically placed it in the trash can face up so everyone would see it. I proudly announced to all that I had started my period! The so called women could care less. No one even asked for proof, even though I had gone to all the trouble of preparing it in the trash can! Two years later, the day finally came. I skipped dance class that day.

Snow

My Mom and sister..."Oh... I hope it snows! I loooove the snow! It's sooo pretty!" Yeah yeah yeah- except you dont have to walk every where in it! Although this baby doesnt seem to mind.
