I was born in Den Hagg, Netherlands. My parents were professional dancers with Netherlands Dans Theatre so I grew up surrounded by the arts. We moved back to the states when I was two years old and I was raised primarily in Winston- Salem, North Carolina- where my Mom resided as North Carolina School of the Arts Dean of Dance. My Dad was also a Professor of Dance in addition to choreographing for companies across the nation.
As a kid my creativity was always encouraged and I was immersed in the arts: violin, dance and singing lessons, visual arts, and community theater productions were my after school activities.
After high school it came as no surprise that I was off to NYC to study Musical Theater at Marymount Manhattan College. But around the middle of my junior year I accidentally fell into working on the costumes for a school production, and something clicked.
I knew I had found my new career behind the scenes and I spent most of my senior year in independent study learning the techniques and skills that would start me on my new path.
After graduation I was off and running with a needle and thread in my hand... and pinned to my shirt... and held in my teeth, and... well you get the idea.
My parents continue to teach ballet and choreograph. My little sister followed in their steps and is a ballet dancer with Richmond Ballet in Virginia and Ballet West in Utah
I still love to sing and dance and draw- but now I do it purely for my own enjoyment. I like it better this way :-)
